Sejarah Hari Valentine

Hari Valentine berawal dari kisah Santo (St. Valentine), seorang pendeta di Roma pada abad ketiga. Pada masa itu, Kaisar Claudius II menetapkan larangan pernikahan bagi pria muda.

Bagi Claudius, seorang pria lajang lebih baik menjadi prajurit dari pada harus terikat dengan pernikahan. Namun, keputusan Kaisar Claudius II itu ditentang oleh Pendeta St. Valentine karena dianggap tidak adil. Lalu, Valentine melakukan prosesi pernikahan pasangan muda tanpa sepengetahuan Kaisar Claudius II secara rahasia.

Pada akhirnya, perbuatan Valentine diketahui oleh Claudius. Atas perbuatannya, Valentine dihukum mati pada 14 Februari 270 masehi. Semenjak saat itu, hari kematian St. Valentine dijadikan sebagai awal perayaan Hari Valentine setiap tahun.
