India - Pulau Ghoramara di Sundarbans, Benggala Barat, India, telah kehilangan hampir separuh wilayahnya akibat erosi. Pulau ini terancam hilang dalam beberapa dekade.

Debasish Paul, 62, a volunteer who works independently on environmental awareness and protection of the island, stands on an embankment built with boulders to prevent erosion, on the western part of Ghoramara Island in the Sundarbans, West Bengal, India, May 17, 2024. Situated 150 kilometres (around 94 miles) south of Kolkata, media has dubbed Ghoramara the 'sinking island'. It has lost nearly half of its area to soil erosion in the last two decades and could completely disappear within a few more decades if a solution is not found. In the decade of 2020, the population has fallen to around 4,000 from 7,000. REUTERS/Avijit Ghosh SEARCH
